Education Expert
In today’s technology driven world, “communication” is the mantra doing the rounds, with emphasis on devising an idea /message and then translating it into effective visuals to enhance quality and creativity.

This is where graphic designing comes into the picture. It is offered as specialization  in Bachelor of Fine, Applied, Visual art and Design courses at most leading colleges such as NID, Ahmedabad; Sir JJ Institute of Applied Arts, Mumbai; College of Art, Delhi, Chandigarh and Lucknow; Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi ; Banaras Hindu University and many more  institutes.

Graphic designing is the means of visually communicating an idea or a set of thoughts. The idea is based on a certain process, which is arrived at after deliberation, and not a spark that comes from inherent creative genes. A methodical and analytical step by step process of assimilation and elimination is required.

Graphic designing is scientific, logical and need driven. There are many rules and lots of techniques that have to be studied, learnt and explored. But the most important of all traits that every designer must be possessed with is, sensitivity. The object is to interest readers or users to the extent  that they are motivated  to look  at the information, remember the contents and finally, either use them to apply the information to think favourably or make an informed decision.

Courses available:

The duration of a degree course  (Bachelors of Fine Arts) in Graphic Design in most colleges is four years, whereas  the Diploma  course  for the same could be anywhere  between three months to two years, depending  on the course syllabus and structure.
