Teacher beats student: Delhi school de-recognised

The Delhi government de-recognised a private school after one of its teachers beat a girl student, who remained in coma for over a month
New Delhi: Rinky Kaushik, 15, a class 10 student of the Dinkar National Model School in east Delhi, slipped into coma after her school teacher beat her Jan 7.

In a notification issued to the school Wednesday, the state government said: "The director of education, in exercise of its powers, withdrew the recognition of Dinkar National Model School, Kondli, Delhi."

The education department said the school "created hindrance to the enquiry" by deputy director of education R.N. Sharma and did not furnish the required records.

The government also said that though the school was recognised by the education directorate up to Class 8, it was running "unauthorised classes" violating the rules. "Infrastructure of the school was not up to the mark."

A resident of Mayur Vihar, Kaushik has been in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Maharaja Agrasen Hospital after the incident. Doctors performed surgery to remove a blood clot from her head. She is out of danger but recuperating at the hospital.

Her parents have complained that the teacher, Dhirendra Kumar Dinkar, beat her with a stick when she did not attend his tuition classes.

Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely had issued a show- cause notice to the school for the alleged corporal punishment.
